Did You Know…? A study at the University of Wurzburg showed people enjoy comedy more when they are holding a pencil between their teeth.
Good evening,
I was away this morning helping with school Science Fair. Thank you everyone for listening to the TOC so well. She had no notes written for me when I returned so I am assuming that no news is good news! Congratulations to Amira, Brayden, Alex B., and Hetvi on all your hard work at Science Fair today. You all did wonderfully! I know that the rest of the class is going to be cheering on Hetvi and Brayden as they move on to the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair!
In Science today, the Grade 5 students began work on their culminating project for this unit. Can’t remember the details of our Burglar Alarm project? Check out the Grade 5 Electricity page; the project is posted there. The Grade 4 students and I did a quick review of the wheel and axles and further explored the pulley today. I wanted to go back and go over pulleys again because we didn’t get very much hands on practice last time we discussed pulleys; some of our materials weren’t cooperating. Today went much better. Students were all able to build and use a fixed pulley and a “block and tackle” where you use a fixed and a moveable pulley. Moveable pulleys can be hard to build (as we saw today) but they do make the work much easier!
