Math – Grade 4

Both grades will need to have online access to the Math Makes Sense ebook in order to complete much of the following:

Multiplying and Dividing Larger Numbers

We were essentially done this unit and had covered all of the required outcomes. However, had we not been evacuated, I would have finished the following to allow students to have more time to practice and solidify their learning:

Note – We complete a Unit Problem following each unit. Unit Problems are presented to students in a 1-2 page document, as attached. However, students have 2-3 classes to work in pairs or small groups on these problems. Students may use large pieces of chart/poster paper to write/draw their answers or may use manipulatives (eg. base-10 blocks, etc.) to model their answers. During these 2-3 classes, I visit and speak with each student/group multiple times, watch them work, take anecdotal notes, question and probe their ideas, solutions, etc. Students are familiar with this, as I conference with students 1-2 times/week throughout the unit during Practice work. Their final mark is largely based on my notes and observations of their work during these classes. Students hand in the 1-2 page document to me as a “summary” of their work/understanding.
