Today we had our Virtue of the Month Assembly. The virtue this month was Gratitude. I want to congratulate our Howler Award Winners:

We also had a chance to preview our Scholastic Book Fair today. Students are welcome to bring in money to purchase something at the Book Fair throughout the week. It will also be open both Tuesday and Wednesday nights during our Parent-Teacher Interviews. The last day to purchase books will be Thursday.

In Science today, the Grade 5 students reviewed the effect that the sun has on temperature. Today we were looking at the seasons. To do so we used this simulator:

Students are more than welcome to use this simulator at home to further explore the concepts discussed in class. We also began a small experiment that we will complete tomorrow.

This week we are looking at words that end in -ear. Be careful! These words have two different pronunciations! For example: spear and pear.

We are going to be having a small Halloween celebration on Thursday. Students brought home a form with the details today. Please let me know if you do NOT want your student to participate in any of the activities. We will be taking part in a Costume Parade as a school, writing and sharing scary stories, and watching a movie. Students can bring in healthy snacks as part of a Healthy Food Buffet that we would like to have during the movie. Please consider our APPLE School Guidelines when preparing snacks. We also have a gluten-intolerance as well as vegetarian and vegan students in our class. Students have been challenged to see who could bring in the most creative healthy snack. Students do NOT have to participate or bring in snacks. Want some ideas of what to make?
