Good evening!
We had a great day today. Thank you to everyone who came dressed up and ready to have some 1970’s fun! We started our morning off by reading chapter 3 of “Bridge to Terabithia” to find out what Jesse’s first day of school was like. We talked about some of the differences between his school and our own. One thing we have really noticed is that the boys and girls do not interact as much as they do at our school. In “Bridge to Terabithia” the girls and boys play on different parts of the schoolyard and the boys are all surprised/angry when Leslie wants to run with them. Today we did quite a few activities that were really different for us to help us to practice our theme. We practiced cursive writing in Language Arts, we did some math drills on our multiplication tables in Math, and we wrote a Social Studies Quiz on our own, without being able to use group planning and discussion. The girls always got to line up before the boys, some desks got turned around, and one student even had to stand up at the board! It was a really fun day, and everyone really enjoyed some of the activities and the different routines.
We also had our FRIENDS Assembly today. As many of you know, Total actually provides the funding to Canadian Mental Health and the Fort McMurray Public School District, in order for us to be able to take part in the FRIENDS program. Today the Grade 5 students shared a relaxation activity with the Grade 1 students, as well as some visitors from Total, Canadian Mental Health, Doug Nicholls, and Mayor Blake. The Grade 1 students have just started their FRIENDS program, so they were able to share a little bit about what they have learned so far. Thank you to everyone for your help today. Everyone did a wonderful job of respecting our TRIBES agreements!
